Iran to accept Russia’s Mir bank cards from January 2025 — Central Bank’s governor

DUBAI, November 13. /TASS/. Bank cards of the Russian payment system Mir will be accepted in Iran from January 2025, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Mohammad Reza Farzin, told reporters after a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers.

“Our Shetab payment system and the Russian Mir system are now technically linked, and any Iranian citizen will be able to use an Iranian card in Russian banks. <…> This is our first stage, and on the second stage, which will start in January, Russian cards will be accepted at ATMs in Iran. And another stage will start at the beginning of next year (the new 1404 year according to the Iranian calendar will begin on March 20, 2025 according to the Gregorian calendar – TASS), following which these [Russian] cards can be used for payment using bank terminals at retail points of sale,” the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran said. The live broadcast was conducted by the SNN TV channel.

On November 11, an official ceremony was held in Tehran to launch the first stage of the project to integrate the Iranian and Russian payment systems.

At the ceremony Farzin announced that integration of two systems Iranian citizens will be able to withdraw cash from their bank cards at ATMs in Russia. The press secretary of the Iranian Central Bank, Mostafa Ghamari Vafa, published a video on his page on the social network X with detailed instructions on how to withdraw cash from Russian ATMs using Shetab system cards.
