HAIKOU /China/, September 29. /TASS/. South China’s Hainan Province will step up economic cooperation with other countries in developing marine resources to promote mutually beneficial projects and improve the efficiency of supply chains. This was stated by Dai Wenda, Deputy Director of the Department of Oceans and Fisheries of Hainan Province.
“We will enhance Hainan’s influence in global ocean management issues by relying on the platform of international cooperation,” the official said at a press conference. He clarified that in implementing offshore projects, the provincial government plans to promote the development of five promising industries – deep-sea oil and gas, new energy, engineering equipment, bio-manufacturing and modern services. According to Dai Wenda, Hainan will continue to expand friendly relations with the PRC’s partner countries.
“By sharing resources, seeking common development and sharing responsibilities, we will build an open and tolerant model of win-win cooperation in the development of the maritime economy,” the deputy department head stressed.
He pointed out the need to develop traditional areas such as fishing, processing of fishery products, promoting cultural, tourism and transportation projects, and supporting segments of the chemical industry. Dai Wenda said the Hainan government will accelerate the introduction of innovative technologies, mobilize research institutes and leading enterprises to ensure the improvement of supply chain efficiency.
According to official statistics, the maritime economy accounts for one-third of Hainan’s gross regional product. In 2023, this segment will total 255.9 billion yuan ($36.5 billion at current exchange rates). The government plans to increase this figure by 2.3 billion yuan.
