
ASTANA, February 25. /TASS/. Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has had a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak in Astana to discuss issues of cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, the press service of the Kazakh leader said in a statement.
“The meeting focused on issues of further strengthening of bilateral trade and economic cooperation. <…> Moreover, issues of interaction in the energy sector were discussed,” the statement reads.
As per the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan, Russia was the republic’s main trade partner in terms of imports last year, with the share of Russian goods reaching 30.5%.
In the energy sector, Kazakhstan and Russia also cooperate on continuing basis, in the oil and gas and electricity areas in particular. At the end of 2024 Novak announced the development of the route of a gas pipeline with the capacity of 45 bln cubic meters from Russia to China via Kazakhstan, 10 bln cubic meters of which intended for gasification of the republic’s northern regions.
